An intense Low Pressure System sits in western Bass Strait, bringing showers, hail and thunder to Victoria and Tasmania. A low pressure trough is evident over the top end, and will produce heavy showers across the tropics, which is rare for this time of year. A strong mid level trough is evident over the interior of WA, and is producing rain for the interior of Australia. The pattern has now shifted, with active low pressure troughs becoming stronger with much colder mid levels now developing over the country. Also, blocking has now ceased, and a Negative IOD is beginning to form off the NW coast of Australia, as evidence by the unseasonal rainfall across the top end. Rainfall is likely to increase in the coming month as the shift has now occured into a wetter phase for the winter and Spring. A seasonal Outlook will be issued by Friday.
